The Claims | Equipment and Setup | The Investigation | Our Results

The Dr. Martin Walton House is a historic house museum located in Springfield, Tennessee (or Cross Plains, depending on who you ask). Built in 1809, the Walton House has a long history in Robertson County, but only belonged to two families throughout its history — the Walton family, and the Cook family. It is now a Red River Heritage Association Museum

Note: Our apologies up front — this article is going to be pretty bare-bones. This investigation was conducted in the middle of our Case 001 series of private investigations, which took quite a bit of mental priority over this one. Additionally, this article was written nearly three months after the fact, so lots of details have been forgotten, unfortunately. However, our video below shows the bulk of the investigation in detail, so please defer to that in lieu of our normal blog write-up.

The Claims

The activity at the Dr. Martin Walton House is a bit downplayed by the staff, but the claims run the gamut of common paranormal activity. Visitors, staff, and neighbors have claimed to see apparitions and see objects moving, and also claim to hear foot steps, tapping on the windows, and disembodied voices of little girls. Additional claims report electrical anomalies such as lights turning on and off, fire alarms being triggered, and camera equipment not working. Finally, the spirit of Susan is said to roam the master bedroom, and likes a clean house. Google shows that other paranormal teams report additional claims of doors slamming and the spirit of Clyde roaming about, but our guide for the night made no mention of either of those during our tour.

Equipment and Setup

We came with our usual kit — see our Resources Page for more information on what that generally includes. We brought our usual filming equipment as well, nothing out of the ordinary. However, the tail end of this investigation had us using our main camera to do something we haven't done before — an overnight timelapse recording! This involved bringing one additional piece of equipment with us that's not on our Resources Page — our 500w camping battery. We usually bring this with us in case we need to charge equipment or phones on the fly, but it rarely leaves our vehicle.

Since we were sleeping overnight at the Walton House, and in one of the more active rooms of the house, we thought it would be worthwhile to set out some REM Pods and see if we got any activity while we slept. And in the event we slept through any activity, we wanted to record the room for the duration. Our camera battery wouldn't cut it, though, so that's where the camping battery came in. We simply plugged our camera into the battery as if we were drawing power from a wall outlet, and that kept the camera recording all night. Easy peasy!

The Investigation

Instead of any sort of investigation write-up, I'm going to let the video do the talking. It's my fault that we're not writing down any sort of notes on our investigations to allow for write-ups after the fact, but we're usually able to remember quite a lot of details to make them possible. However, this time around, we had Case 001 investigations on both sides of this investigation, making it difficult to remember much as that investigation really took priority. With other investigations taking place, work, life, and other hobbies all colliding together, this one just fell by the wayside. That being said, this video is around 2 hours long and includes a history and tour of the house, so hopefully that makes up for my personal irresponsibility in keeping good data. Enjoy!

Our Results

This investigation was quite unique in that most of the activity seemed to occur when we weren't near the equipment that was being triggered, such as the REM Pod in Dr. Walton's office going off while we were in the basement, or the REM Pod in the master bedroom going off while we were in Dr. Walton's office. While we did get other activity in our presence, it was rather minimal compared to this offset type of activity we encountered throughout the night. It was also interesting in that the spirits seemed to want us to leave, and the periods of silence became just as important as the periods activity when piecing together that narrative. Here are our results for the evening.

  • Strong EMF meter spike in the master bedroom
  • Intelligent flashlight activity in basement
  • REM Pod activity in Dr. Walton's office and in the master bedroom
  • Dead bell activity in the master bedroom
  • Seemingly intelligent Estes Method responses
  • Tapping on a window in the master bedroom (confirming one of the claims)

We'd like to thank Heather Carver for our tour and for facilitating our paranormal investigation at the Dr. Martin Walton House.
